October 9, 2014

WORCESTER Ronald Ezekiel Waclawik, 55, sculptor, passed away on October 9, 2014 following a yearlong battle with cancer. Ron is survived by his wife of 37 years, Laurice Waclawik of Millis, MA, his daughter and son in law Julie and Norwood Pearson-Waclawik of Quincy, MA, and his daughter Colleen Waclawik of Millis, MA, three brothers and four sisters-in law, (the late) Stanley and Vivian Waclawik of Millis, MA, Francis and Mea Waclawik of Fullerton, CA, Daniel and Lee Waclawik of Oswego, NY and Stephen and Frances Waclawik of Vermont. In addition, an aunt Stephanie Pilat of Acushnet, MA, several nieces, nephews and grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. His family will sorely miss the gentle, loving man that he was. Ron graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Sculpture in 1985, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture in 1991. He worked eight years at Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI, where he was an inventor or co-inventor on eight U. S. patents. Ron was passionate about life and did everything with enthusiasm. From his early years as an auto body mechanic where he fabricated body parts from sheet metal rather than purchasing new ones, to his final working years of making molds to produce the plastic housings for medical equipment, he loved to make things. He made sculpture first and foremost, but in his employment made marble and granite countertops and granite window trim and fluted columns for a building at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to name a few. The burial will be on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 9:00 am at Riverside Cemetery at 274 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719, followed by a memorial service at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Medfield, at 26 North St., Medfield, MA 02052 at 11:30 am. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MSPCA Centerville, as that is where we adopted his constant loving companion, Angel, at 1577 Falmouth Rd., Centerville, MA 02632, and please note In Memory of Ronald Waclawik on the memo line.
